Verizon offers 4K video streaming for $10 extra per month

Verizon offers 4K video streaming for $10 extra per month

The new plan will be available starting November 3rd. Now, Verizon will let you pay an extra $10 a month per line to remove all restrictions and let you watch any video quality that your mobile device supports, so with that new Galaxy Note8 you picked up, you'll be able to watch up to 1440p videos or up to 4K on other devices that support it.

Verizon actually eliminated full-resolution video streaming from its unlimited plan, for reasons that weren't fully explained. ATT has a $90 plan with video streaming, but you'll be stuck at HD quality.

Being that Verizon's unlimited data plan didn't have any of these streaming quality restrictions prior to this move, some customers have been left feeling frustrated and disappointed by the news. And then, they introduced two tiers to the unlimited plan: a $75 per month plan where you can only stream up to 480p resolution videos and 720p if it's on a tablet, and an $85 per month plan where you get to watch 720p videos on your smartphone and 1080p on your tablet.

With Premium Streaming "video is delivered in its original definition, up to 4K", but what you see will depend on your phone's capabilities, the spokeswoman said.

The video limits are imposed on cellular data, including when you share your phone's Internet connection with another device. The additional $10 per month charge is per line, so if you have a family plan it's going to cost you a bit more per month if you want high quality video. There's also a prepaid and a business unlimited plan. Just three months ago Verizon allowed us to stream unrestricted video content with the exception of the amount of data used.

Verizon claims that very few customers have complained about these limits, so it might not be so bad after all. It's not clear whether that would raise the tablet data price from $20 to $30 a month; we've asked Verizon and will update this story if we get an answer. Lines that consumer more than 22GB are deprioritized on the network.
