Ezekiel Elliott wants to prove he is 'not an abuser'

Ezekiel Elliott wants to prove he is 'not an abuser'

A federal appeals court in NY granted a brief administrative stay of Elliott's suspension Friday morning, temporarily clearing his eligibility to play.

The Associated Press reported attorneys for the National Football League argued Thursday that Elliott's appeal "has no likelihood of success " and that the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan should not get in the way of Elliott beginning his suspension.

It appeared that after much back-and-forth, Ezekiel Elliott's six-game suspension was set to begin on Sunday.

Ezekiel Elliott has a strong explanation for why he continues to fight his suspension at every turn. A little later on Friday, Elliott returned to the Cowboys' facility to prepare for their upcoming game against the Chiefs on Sunday.

After last Sunday's win, Elliott said his camp felt "confident" the running back would play the balance of the 2017 season.

Elliott was originally suspended six games by the National Football League after a year-long investigation concluded that Elliott has physically abused then-girlfriend Tiffany Thompson in July 2016.

Prosecutors in Columbus, Ohio, decided not to pursue the case in the city where Elliott starred for Ohio State, citing conflicting evidence.

The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in NY on Friday temporarily blocked a lower-court ruling that required Elliott to begin serving a six-game suspension.

The stop-and-go season has not discouraged Elliott from moving forward with the appeals process each time a court upholds the suspension.

Lawyers on both sides did not immediately return messages seeking comment.

The NFL said roughly 100 players were suspended for approximately 500 games over the past season and a half.

The Cowboys (4-3) are in second place in the NFC East.
