Carter Page testified for 6.5 hours for House Intel probe

Sessions, who as a Republican senator served as a top foreign policy adviser to Donald Trump during his presidential campaign, testified in January that he wasn't aware of any campaign contacts with Russian Federation.

"Sessions should come back before [the Senate Judiciary Committee]", Schumer said on The Rachel Maddow Show.

"He now needs to come back before the Committee, in person, under oath, to explain why he can not seem to provide truthful, complete answers to these important and relevant questions", Leahy, a former chairman of the Judiciary Committee, told The New York Times. A guy he had never met before grabs him, 'Hey, I'm out on the team.

While Democrats have called for Sessions to be questioned again, Rep. Mike Conaway (R-Texas), who is leading the House committee's probe into Russia's interference in the 2016 elections, told CNN, "I don't make anything sinister out of it".

Sessions' discussion with Page will fuel further scrutiny about what the attorney general knew about connections between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation - and communications about Russian Federation that he did not disclose despite a persistent line of questioning in three separate hearings this year. "I think that on different occasions he either has a awful memory or he is deliberately not telling me the truth". Al Franken, the Minnesota Democrat, accused him of failing "to tell the truth about your interactions with Russian operatives during the campaign". However, he declined to say whether he thought Sessions lied and said he thought any decision on whether Sessions did something wrong should be left with special counsel Robert Mueller.

Senator Al Franken, whose exchange with Sessions in January has prompted a continuing dispute, said in a letter to Sessions on Thursday that the Papadopoulos revelations are "another example in an alarming pattern in which you, the nation's top law enforcement officer, apparently failed to tell the truth, under oath, about the Trump team's contacts with agents of Russian Federation".

During his January confirmation hearing to become attorney general, Sessions told the Judiciary Committee that he had had no communication with Russian officials, only to have The Post reveal in March that he had spoken twice with the Russian ambassador to the United States, Sergey Kislyak.

On Wednesday, Democrats said Sessions needs to clarify his comments.

A source familiar with the meeting told Fox News that it "seems clear that the people who remember the conversation believed that Papadopoulos was proposing a prospective idea of using his "Russian contacts" to try to set up a meeting between Trump and Putin, which was immediately rejected by then-Senator Sessions". In the plea deal documents released by Mueller on Monday, Papadopoulos recounted a meeting in which he suggested setting up a meeting with then-candidate Trump and some Russians he knew with potentially damaging information about Clinton.

George Papadopoulos, a junior aide to the Trump campaign, pled guilty to making false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation earlier in October.

When asked specifically if the recalls the March 31 meeting, Sanders said, "No, I don't believe he does".

"I was one of many people on that email chain", the perpetually chatty Page told CNN's Jake Tapper in an on-air interview.
