Rand Paul Allegedly Attacked By Neighbor Over Landscaping Dispute

The man accused of attacking Sen.

In an update, Paul's senior adviser Doug Stafford sent a statement to the Bowling Green Daily News that Paul, 54, "has five rib fractures including three displaced fractures".

Rene Boucher, the neighbor charged with attacking Sen.

"He's pretty much the opposite of Rand Paul in every way", added another mutual acquaintance.

The suspect, 59-year-old Bowling Green anesthesiologist Rene Boucher, has been charged with fourth-degree assault.

On Sunday, Paul's chief of staff told the Washington Post Paul sustained five broken ribs, as well as bruised lungs, and that he is in pain.

The Blaze, Glenn Beck's online news site, told readers on Sunday that FBI investigators believed "the attack, which occurred Friday afternoon, was politically motivated". "Senator Paul is fine".

Though the State Police was unable to provide Fox News a timeline for when their investigation will be complete, a spokesman said "it is up to Commonwealth prosecutors" whether Boucher's charges could change from misdemeanor to felony, depending on the severity of Paul's injuries.

Kentucky State Police Master Trooper Jeremy Hodges said he could not release details of the assault because of security issues.

At the time of the assault, Paul had "trouble breathing due to a potential rib injury", according to a criminal complaint filed in Warren County District Court. "It is not clear exactly how soon he will return to work, as the pain is considerable as is the difficulty in getting around, including flying."‬.

At one point, Boucher was a practicing physician, even working alongside Paul, according to his lawyer.

Boucher's attorney released a statement on Monday alleging the dispute had "absolutely nothing to do with either's politics or political agendas" and was merely "a very regrettable dispute between two neighbors over a matter that most people would regard as trivial".

Paul, a former GOP presidential candidate, told police that a neighbor came on his property and tackled him from behind on Friday, an arrest warrant said.

Boucher was booked into the Warren County Regional Jail. Online records state that Boucher's party affiliation is Democrat.
