Grades Up: Texas Tech Athletes Earn Highest Ever Graduation Success Rate

For the fifth-straight year, Georgia Tech athletics has posted its highest NCAA Graduation Success Rate ever, with its GSR coming in at 88 percent in the latest data that was released by the NCAA on Wednesday.

Penn State student-athletes achieved a record-tying academic performance as the student-athletes continue to graduate at rates higher than most schools around the country.

This year's report accounts for students who entered college in 2010.

"The FGR, which simply tracks whether students who enter an institution as freshmen graduate from it within six years, is higher for Ohio State's general student body than the subset who are athletes (although both groups posted an increase of one percent in this year's report)", Davidson said.

Eleven Tech programs recorded a single-year GSR of 100 percent for the freshman class of 2010-11 - meaning all freshmen who enrolled in these respective sports during this year graduated within six years. The men's golf, men's tennis, women's basketball, women's tennis and volleyball teams all had a 100 percent GSR score, according to the release. GSR begins with the federal cohort, and adds transfer students, mid-year enrollees and certain non-scholarship students to the sample.

The Towson baseball team had the highest Federal Graduation Rate in the CAA, while field hockey, women's soccer and women's swimming and diving had a GSR of 100 percent. Under the GSR calculation, institutions are not penalized for outgoing transfer students who leave in good academic standing.

Three Tech programs recorded GSR's of 90 or better, including lacrosse (92), women's basketball (90), which finished a point ahead of the national average, and men's swimming and diving. In 2016-17 alone, Villanova competed in national postseason competition in men's and women's basketball, football, men's soccer and women's cross country.

Rutgers' GSR figure ranks tied for sixth among Big Ten football programs and tied for 35th nationally among Football Bowl Subdivision teams.

The Charlotte 49ers had a GSR of 91 percent, with men's golf, men's and women's tennis and volleyball posting 100 percent rates. "The continued recognition of the Graduation Success Rate success is a testament to the hard work of all of our students along with the guidance of our coaches and staff".
