Weinstein allegedly hired agencies to investigate, suppress accusations

"In a contract between Boies' law firm and Black Cube, The New Yorker report says it directed Black Cube to help expose "...information that would stop the publication of a New York Times story about Weinstein's abuses...."

Weinstein allegedly hired an "army of spies" in an attempt to stop accusers from going public with sexual misconduct claims against him, according to a report in the New Yorker this week.

A significant portion of Black Cube's business revolves around settling "disputes between large business entities" through opposition research and intelligence, Haaretz said.

"More than a year ago, Mr. Barak was asked by Harvey Weinstein whether he is familiar with an Israeli security company, which would be capable of helping him with some business issues he was facing", a spokesman for the former premier told the Post. "Barak confirmed to [Weinstein] the company he heard of was likely Black Cube", a spokesperson for Barak said in a statement. Weinstein has repeatedly denied "any allegations of non-consensual sex", but acknowledged in a statement following the initial Times report last month that, "I appreciate the way I've behaved with colleagues in the past has caused a lot of pain, and I sincerely apologize for it".

Black Cube has said that all of its operations are legal and that they do not comment on their clients as a matter of policy.

On its website, Black Cube describes itself as a "select group of veterans from the Israeli elite intelligence units that specializes in tailored solutions to complex business and litigation challenges".

In the fall of 2016, almost a year before any allegations against Weinstein had surfaced, Weinstein allegedly initiated what The New Yorker calls a concerted effort to silence his accusers. In one example, a private investigator posed as a women's rights activist in a meeting with actress Rose McGowan.

The spy used a different fake identity to meet with a journalist while claiming to have an accusation against Weinstein, in order to learn which women were talking to the media.

Ronan Farrow, who authored the piece, is one of the reporters who broke the original news that Weinstein had been accused of assaulting several women over the course of decades.

The New Yorker reports that Weinstein sought the assistance of ex-employees from his movie enterprises to help collect names and place calls.

Black Cube investigations also sometimes went through Weinstein's lawyers, according to the magazine.

The tactics of Black Cube operatives include undercover intelligence collection through the use of aliases.

McGowan responded by tweeting, "And you thought investigative reporting was dead". We were followed by ex-Mossad agents.
