Amazon launches Sumerian, platform for building, hosting VR and AR apps

Amazon has acquired technology for this new service from a Swedish startup called Goo Technologies that went bankrupt earlier this year.

Terry also maintained his Conviction Buy rating on the stock ahead of the company's annual AWS conference, dubbed "re:Invent", this week. Launched today with immediate availability, Avi for VMware Cloud on AWS brings together VMware's enterprise-class software-defined data center (SDDC) software and dedicated, elastic, bare-metal infrastructure from AWS to give organizations a consistent operating model and application mobility for private and public cloud.

The news follows less than a week after Fortinet announced the addition of 11 technology providers to its Fabric-Ready Partner Program, including ADVA Optical Networking, Bradford Networks, Cyber Observer, CSPi, FireMon, ForeScout Technologies, Intel Corporation, Microsoft Azure, Ribbon Communications (formerly Sonus Networks) and SentinelOne. "While Amazon has never discussed any plans for a spin or any HQ2 plans relative to AWS, it is possible that the location of the new headquarters could provide some insight into the way management is thinking about the positioning of AWS", he said.

The AWS Competency Program includes 17 categories in solution areas such as IoT, DevOps, Big Data, as well as industry verticals such as Education, Financial Services, Government, and Healthcare/Life Sciences. Avi Vantage delivers one-click load balancer provisioning, simplified troubleshooting, consistent multi-cloud architecture, and cost savings of more than 50 percent to customers of VMware Cloud on AWS. The new release also includes enhancements to enable production-class workloads at scale. That's where the AWS Marketplace came in. Unity projects is widely used by AR and VR developers.

Participating software companies in the preview are AppDynamics, Barracuda, CA Technologies, Cisco, Checkpoint, Chef, F5, NetApp, Palo Alto Networks, Pitney Bowes, Snowflake, and Trend Micro.

Amazon has added a number of "pre-configured" building blocks to ensure that developers can start with development without worrying about coding while working on basic "inanimate objects" or even the basics 'of a human form'. "And you can use the Marketplace to create better experiences for customers".

AWS Marketplace's Private Image Build is now available in preview to AWS Marketplace customers.
