Civilization VI Getting Rise and Fall Expansion Pack

Civilization VI Getting Rise and Fall Expansion Pack

Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, Civilization VI is getting its first big expansion next year.

Civilization 6: Rise and Fall will release on February 8th, 2018. Entitled Rise and Fall, this expansion looks jam-packed with new features, civilizations, and leaders. The developers have altered this formula, with the mechanics now "tied to the idea of the 'game era, ' which is determined by individual player advancement and a few other behind-the-scenes adjustments". Entering a new in-game era now also comes with the possibility of entering a Dark or Golden Age. Respond well to the challenges of a Dark Age, and your civilization can rise again into renewal with a Heroic Age.

Another wide-ranging change is the implementation of "loyalty".

Cities now have their own loyalty too - and how strong it is will have a direct impact on the resources you can get from that city. Going through a Dark Age obviously hurts Loyalty, but will allow for "special Dark Age policies" and make future Golden Ages easier to earn. In Sid Meier's Civilization VI, cities will physically expand across the map to create new, deep strategic layers, active research in technology and culture will unlock new potential ways to play; and the large variety of leaders will pursue their own agendas based on their historical character traits as players race to achieve victory however they choose to play.

As part of this system, you can recruit, appoint and upgrade powerful Governors, which come with unique specialisation bonuses and promotion trees, and who let you reinforce Loyalty.

More tangible incentives have been added to alliances, prompting players to band together for bonuses and benefits. "Emergency Situations" can now occur in late-stage civilizations under circumstances like losing a holy city or capital, or coming under a nuclear attack, keeping the late game from stagnation.

Rise and Fall will bring eight new civs, nine new leaders, and bring more units, districts, wonders, buildings, and other additions than you can probably build in a single game. "With the new Great Ages system in Sid Meier's Civilization VI: Rise and Fall, players can experience the ebb and flow of building empires amidst the challenges of history, either to lasting greatness or the dust of antiquity".
