Israel Attacks Iranian Base in Syria

Israel Attacks Iranian Base in Syria

Airstrikes by the IAF were also reported.

Syrian media reported Saturday that the "Israeli enemy fired missiles at an army base outside Damascus".

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said heavy explosions were heard in the area and electricity was cut off throughout Damascus.

Israel is yet to comment on the reports, although its military has repeatedly targeted Hizballah positions.

Two missiles were intercepted, according to the Syrian State TV, but the base suffered material damages, he extent of which is still not clear.

Reports: Syrian Army Intercepts Missiles Near Damascus

Earlier, a senior Israeli official vowed to bomb Syrian President's palace if Hezbollah continued to expand its sway over Syria.

Israel has long warned that Iran is trying to establish a permanent presence in Syria. Whilst he did accept Iran's expanding influence through proxies in Syria and elsewhere, Liberman asserted explicitly that Iranian presence was limited to "some Iranian advisers and experts".

Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said the missile strike targeted a military base near Kesweh, south of Damascus. "We will not allow that regime to entrench itself militarily in Syria, as it seeks to do, for the express goal of eradicating our state", said Netanyahu.

The missile attack was believed to be the latest in a series of Israeli attacks on Syria, where a six-year civil war has devastated much of the country and displaced millions of citizens. In satellite images published by the BBC, several buildings that appear to be storage facilities - for vehicles or weapons - are seen along a staging ground, with other buildings, one of them appearing to be a headquarters, adjacent.
