Jimbo Fisher accepts head coach position at Texas A&M

Boston College won 35-3.

It's official: Jimbo Fisher is leaving Florida State and won't be coaching Saturday's game.

Texas A&M sources indicated to ESPN that the Aggies were prepared to make Fisher one of the sport's highest-paid coaches with an annual salary of more than $7 million, ranking behind Alabama's Nick Saban ($11.1 million in total compensation this year, average of $8.27 million over eight years).

Deondre Francois is not happy about how Jimbo Fisher left his coaching post at Florida State. Sumlin was let go following a 7-5 campaign, his fourth straight year with at least five losses. "The excitement around Florida State is indisputable, and a tremendous opportunity awaits whoever is chosen as our new head football coach".

Fisher's connection to Texas A&M comes in the form of Scott Woodward, who knows Fisher from their days at LSU. The school's only national title came in 1939. Texas A&M Chancellor John Sharp said after Thursday's Board of Regents meeting that expectations were "nothing serious". One of the first tasks for Fisher in College Station will be to put together his first recruiting class, and with this being the first year with an early signing period, things will get interesting on the recruiting trail. The last to do it was Johnny Majors, who went from Pittsburgh to Tennessee in 1977.

He will not coach in the Seminoles' regular-season finale against Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday. Defensive line coach Odell Haggins will be the interim coach.

"President Thrasher and I have worked together through this challenging period while coach Fisher was making a decision, and I appreciate the cooperation, support and leadership he has provided", athletic director Stan Wilcox said.
