'Bloodthirsty tirade': Russian FM decries United States threats to destroy North Korea

"If someone really wants to use force to, as the U.S. representative to the United Nations put it, destroy North Korea. then I think that is playing with fire and a big mistake", Lavrov told reporters.

December 1, 2017 (EIRNS)-According to Vitaly Pashin of the State Duma, the lower house of Russia's bicameral Federal Assembly, "North Korea is now ready to conduct negotiations with the USA with the participation of Russia as a third party", Pashin told TASS, commenting on the results of the talks between the Russian parliamentary delegation and the North Korean leadership in Pyongyang, Nov. 27-Dec. 1.

But Pyongyang's latest ICBM infuriated USA supremo Donald Trump who may push for military action over entering diplomatic talks. A group of Russian MPs, who visited Pyongyang earlier this week, said that the North Korean side expressed readiness to engage in talks, but demanded that Moscow play a mediating role. Lavrov called Haley's speech at the UN Security Council on Wednesday "a really bloodthirsty tirade".

"We will do everything to ensure that (the use of force) doesn't happen so that the problem is decided only using peaceful and political-diplomatic means", said Lavrov. Moscow has been closely working with the United States on the North Korean issue, with several meetings being held between the countries' diplomats in the Russian capital and other venues, the FM added.

Lavrov also spoke of having "the impression over the last two months that there is someone in Washington who wants to provoke new actions" by North Korea.

"China and Russian Federation have a common stance on the Korean Peninsula issue, maintaining contact with each other".

Lavrov pointed to Washington's plans to conduct a large- scale air force drill with South Korea in December, a new show of force aimed at the Kim regime, saying the USA would be better off if it tried to hold negotiations instead.

Russian Federation and China have proposed a roadmap for settling the Korean crisis through a transition to negotiations, which implies rejection of any actions that fuel tensions. "He said North Korea is ready to sit down at the negotiating table".

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly warned of a military scenario for North Korea, and recently included the country on the list of state sponsors of terrorism, paving the way for more sanctions.

"They trust Russian Federation, therefore they consider the possibility [of negotiations] only with its participation ... as the guarantor of the talks", Chepa said.
