North Korea will not get rid of its nuclear weapons

North Korea will not get rid of its nuclear weapons

"The entire United States is within range of our nuclear weapons, and a nuclear button is always on my desk. They should accurately be aware that this is not a threat but a reality", he said, according to a CNN translation of his speech.

"This year we should focus on mass producing nuclear warheads and ballistic missiles for operational deployment", Kim said.

Bizarrely, news of the documents comes after Russian Federation said it is ready to act as a mediator between North Korea and the United States if both parties are willing.

The North will only use nuclear weapons if its security is threatened, he added.

North Korea tested intercontinental ballistic missiles and conducted its sixth and most powerful nuclear test in September in defiance of global warnings and sanctions, raising fears of a new conflict on the Korean peninsula.

Pyongyang and Seoul should improve their relations and the path to dialogue is open, Mr Kim was reported as saying.

Retired Adm. Mike Mullen on Sunday warned the U.S.is closer to a nuclear war with North Korea than ever before.

Ahead of the Winter Olympics next month in the South, Kim said that he hopes for the South's successful hosting of the sporting event.

The president vowed to destroy North Korea if the country continued to threaten the US, speaking during his maiden speech at the United Nations earlier this year.
