United States calls for emergency United Nations session on Iran protests

Haley said the U.S.is calling for U.N. Security Council and Human Rights Council emergency sessions on Iran. In the days ahead, we will be calling for an emergency session both here in NY, and at the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

"The long-repressed Iranian people are now finding their voice", she said.

"The great Iranian people have been repressed for many years".

"I think the response so far from the United States has been a good response", Michael Singh, a former Bush administration official who is now a senior fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy told CNN's Wolf Blitzer Tuesday, assessing the Trump administration's approach.

Still, a senior administration official said U.S. officials are taking inventory of ways they can be supportive of the demonstrations and come up with "creative" ideas. "We must not make that mistake again".

Haley is known for not mincing words and took yet another bold stance against the global governing body Tuesday, with specific references to the recent protests in Iran. We all know that's complete nonsense.

"We're trying to move for a peace process, but if that doesn't happen, the president is not going to continue to fund that situation", she added. "All freedom-loving people must stand with their cause", Nikki Haley told reporters at the UN's NY headquarters.

A wave of protests about Iran's weakening economy swept the Iranian capital of Tehran over the weekend, the largest protest against the Islamic Republic's clerical government since the disputed 2009 presidential election.

"The President has basically said that he doesn't want to give any additional funding, until the Palestinians are agreeing to come back to the negotiation table", Nikki Haley said.

The demonstrations in Iran, which have erupted against a backdrop of rising food and gasoline prices, began Thursday in the northeastern city of Mashhad before spreading to other cities.

"President Rouhani told other Iranian leaders these protests are 'nothing, ' " U.S. Sen.

"So North Korea can talk with anyone they want but the United States is not going to recognise it or acknowledge it until they agree to ban the nuclear weapons that they have".

"Nor can Moon abandon the US-led global pressure campaign against North Korea's nuclear and missile development", Snyder said.
