Apple Eases Code Development For App Store Devs With Buddybuild Acquisition

After all, if there are no developers making software for its hardware, the company won't sell as many devices.

"We're excited to share that the Buddybuild team has joined the Xcode engineering group at Apple to build awesome developer tools for the entire iOS community", the company announced, likewise confirming that Buddybuild will soon become an exclusive iOS developer tool.

"Buddybuild is a continuous integration (CI), continuous deployment (CD), and user feedback platform for iOS and Android development teams". Out of that number, Apple's share was around $11 billion. Those app developers on Android will no longer be able to access Buddybuild beginning in March 2018.

In 2014, Apple, in a similar move, had acquired Burstly, the owner of mobile app testing platform, Testflight. Hopefully, Apple's Xcode will grow with this new acquisition. Last year, Apple said December 2016 was the App Store's biggest month ever, bringing in $3 billion in revenue; this year, it doesn't seem to have broken out the monthly data for December (though we've asked for it). For smaller developers, these efforts could provide more incentives to build products, especially on emerging platforms like ARKit and the Apple Watch.

More to the point, it should make developing and iterating apps for iOS that much easier than before. This will further boost the make of an iOS app and run unit or user interface tests in the follow-up. That's just spitballing, of course, as Google hasn't released any data like this, and excluding China tilts the numbers in Apple's favor. It should also be noted that the startup will working on the Android app development that it had started last February. And with Apple's growing emphasis on Augmented Reality, there are now 2,000 ARKit enabled apps on the shelves.

How does the acquisition help Apple?

Buddybuild does the same, but in a more comprehensive way.
