Activists Beam Message onto Twitter HQ: Jack Dorsey 'Complicit' in Trump's Tweeting

Twitter had already said in September that "newsworthiness" and whether a tweet is "of public interest" are among the factors it considers before removing an account or a tweet.

In a blog post the company said its objective "is to serve and help advance the global, public conversation" and therefore would not remove content from elected leaders.

Trump, who has exchanged a series of threats and insults with the Pyongyang regime since past year, tweeted late Tuesday that he, too, has a "nuclear button" that is "much bigger and more powerful" than the one North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has.

Trump's tweet was apparently in response to Kim's comment earlier this week that he has a nuclear launch button at his desk.

The company said that it does review tweets by world leaders and enforces its rules accordingly, leaving open the possibility that it could take down some material posted by them.

Protesters in California are calling on Twitter to shut down the President's account after he lashed out against North Korea's leader, Kim Jong Un. Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works! "It would also not silence that leader, but it would certainly hamper necessary discussion around their words and actions", the company said in a blog post Friday.

Twitter disagrees that this statement is a "specific threat of violence".

"Resistance SF captioned the photo: "@jack breaks the rules of his own company, Twitter, to amplify a madman and endanger the world.

A Twitter spokesperson confirmed to The Hill that the tweet does not violate its terms of service because it is not a "specific threat".

In an interview with United States broadcaster Voice of America, Pence said the president's leadership on the world stage has resulted in "measurable progress", especially on the issue of North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programs. "We believe that's the best way to help our society make progress", it said.

Mr Trump was criticised last month by the British prime minister Theresa May for re-tweeting three inflammatory videos posted by a far-right group.
