HMD Announces Nokia 6 (2018) With Upgraded Specs

HMD Announces Nokia 6 (2018) With Upgraded Specs

With more processing muscle, the new Nokia phone will be able to render improved image processing in low light, deliver better battery life and optimise device performance.

The new year has just rolled out and HMD Global is starting it not with a bang but with a tiny pop. There is a 16MP rear autofocus camera with f/2.0 aperture, dual LED flash in addition to an 8MP front-facing camera with same aperture and 84-degree wide angle lens. It supports expandable storage up to 128GB via a microSD card slot.

The design has also been tweaked, with the fingerprint scanner moving to the back, navigation buttons being moved on-screen and the dimensions changing, as the Nokia 6 (2018) comes in at 148.8 x 75.8 x 8.25mm (or 8.6mm where the camera juts out).

Moreover, Nokia 6 (2018) runs Android Nougat 7.1.1. As smartphones have become more and more common - to the point where a "dumb phone" is almost unheard of - Nokia was behind the times and had basically disappeared for quite some time. The front of the device boasts a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS LCD display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 and an aspect ratio of 16:9.

The phone is available only in China and is listed by Suning for pre-orders. And the 2018 version also has come up with two features unique to this segment- Bluetooth 5.0 and USB Type-C. There was no fast charging. Its actual launch is still a few days away, but the company is revealing enough to make buyers of the first gen Nokia 6 seethe in jealousy.

This smartphone gives its support the Dual-Sight technology. One fun new feature is the "dual view" camera, which can snap a picture from the front and back sensors at the same time and will stitch the two pictures together, side by side.

Based on the newly-surfaced details, it seems that the new Nokia 6 (2018) will sport a slight redesign and a new chipset, but it will also share many specifications with its predecessor. However, Nokia 6 (2018) now supports "Bothie" mode that lets users capture and record from the front and rear camera simultaneously. Seeing the first roll out to the Chinese market, the handset is priced at CNY 1,499 for 32GB storage variant and CNY 1,699 for the 64GB memory version.
