Intel Announces 802.11ax Chipsets for Faster Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi router: D-Link's AC2600 Wi-Fi route is based on Intel's Home Wi-Fi Chipset WAV500 Series, which also appears in Asus' Blue Cave Wi-Fi router.

The Wi-Fi Alliance, an industry consortium that helps smooth the arrival of the 802.11 family of wireless networking engineering standards, is working on technology that will help Wi-Fi work better despite modern-day challenges. In addition, users can expect improved network efficiency and longer battery life on client devices that use the new standard. Intel's new chipsets will be based on Draft 2.0 of 802.11ax.

Intel announced this week that it'll have chips ready within the year for the next generation of Wi-Fi - what's known as 802.11ax.

"These performance enhancements are coming just in time to answer new demands in the smart and connected home". The certification is done to give consumers the confidence that the device they purchased will indeed work with the new standard.

In the e-mail, the Alliance said that most companies will not manufacture devices compliant to 802.11ax this year.

Apart from Intel, several other WiFi chipset vendors are expected to announce 802.11ax based chipsets at CES next week.

The firm's 802.11ax home chipsets are designed with the always-connected nature of our current lifestyles in mind, allowing up to 256 devices to connect simultaneously. In addition, the chipset is engineered to deliver enhanced throughput rates for a mix of small and large packet sizes. Celeno´s extensive chip portfolio and ground-breaking software technologies are created to excel in real life, highly interfered dense network scenarios, delivering the level of management, performance, speed, coverage, reliability and superlative user experience demanded by Wi-Fi users.

Backed by years of experience helping introduce new standards to the marketplace, Intel is prepared to help drive a successful launch of 802.11ax and ensure consumers get the best possible Wi-Fi experience.

The new standard will offer significant improvements over its predecessor, 802.11ac.
