Sony Unveils 3 Mid-Tier Xperia Smartphones Ahead Of CES 2018

The first new phone to be announced was the Sony Xperia XA2, which boasts a powerful 23-megapixel camera that promises "clear low-light photography". The camera remains the same with a 23MP rear sensor and 8MP front-facing camera with 120° super wide-angle lens and f/2.4 aperture. The XA2 is powered by a 3,300mAh battery which is supported by Sony's Smart Stamina mode to prolong battery life, and QuickCharge technology gives you hours of life from just minutes of charge. It's not built into the power button as on some Sony smartphones, but instead resides below the camera on the rear panel.

The 3,300 mAh battery and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 Mobile Platform means you can do more of what you love for longer with smooth and speedy performance. It comes with the same 8 megapixel selfie camera that the XA2 has, and will run on Android Nougat.

"Our super mid-range product strategy started out as an exciting new idea based on bringing bold technologies to this section of the market in the most accessible way possible", said Hideyuki Furumi, EVP, Global Sales & Marketing, at Sony Mobile Communications. The Xperia XA2 and Xperia XA2 Ultra are sequels to a pair of handsets that were released in the United Kingdom past year, namely the Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra. On the front both smartphones have an 8MP ultra wide fixed-focus camera to get all your friends in the frame. The phone is powered by a MediaTek MT6737T SoC, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage with microSD card slot and has a3,300mAh battery inside. Sony Xperia XA2 comes in silver, black, blue and pink, while the Xperia XA2 Ultra replaces to pink with gold and the Xperia L2 offers black, gold and pink hues. The report highlights that the device will come with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

The Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra have very similar features but there are some big differences between the devices.

On the other hand, the Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra sports a 6-inch full HD display with 1080x1920 pixel resolution. The Ultra version gets a 16MP + 8MP front camera with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) on the 16MP sensor.

As expected, the display has increased in both size and resolution over the XA1, to 5.2-inch full HD and Sony has given the XA2 a fingerprint sensor, something the XA1 didn't feature.

Both the XA2 and XA2 Ultra will have the Snapdragon 630 processor and have a 23-megapixel rear camera as mentioned.

Lastly, the Xperia L2 is the baby of the bunch.

As above, Sony has advised only the XA2 is heading to Australia, though if they change their minds we'll be sure to let you know. The smartphone packs a 3850mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge support. This will come in Black, Gold and Pink colour options.
