Canada's projected Pyeongchang Olympics medal haul: 33, including 7 gold

Canada's projected Pyeongchang Olympics medal haul: 33, including 7 gold

All but three of the Canadian players are now plying their trade in European leagues, with 13 of them coming from Russia's Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).

"We're going to draw on that but we also know that to win hockey games, we're going to need big performances, we're going to need guys who come into the Olympics and seize the moment", said Burke.

Ontario's Eric O'Dell played 41 games with the Jets in the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons while also spending four seasons with their AHL affiliate in St. John's.

The bulk of the National Hockey League experience comes from seven forwards with some familiar names.

Wolski played in 451 games, accumulating 99 goals and 168 assists for Colorado, Phoenix, the New York Rangers, Florida and Washington.

"When we go to these Olympics, this team will make Canada proud".

The roster announcement, carried live on several networks, was made at the Hall of Champions at Hockey Canada's office in Calgary. "We saw them play, we had numerous events and everyone of them represented our jersey like we expect Canadians to do. It's about guys who have received a no but found a way to make a yes".

Canada won gold medals in Vancouver in 2010 and Sochi in 2014 with teams full of National Hockey League stars, but the 2018 Games pose a different challenge: For the first time since 1994, the men's roster won't include its usual assortment of National Hockey League players.

The 12-country men's hockey tournament at the 2018 Games goes from February 14-25 at the Gangneung Hockey Centre and the Kwandong Hockey Centre.

With the opening ceremonies less than a month away, the Canadian Olympic Committee has yet to state what the Canadian team's medal target is for Pyeongchang.

Gracenote has been increasingly bullish on Canada's medal prospects in Pyeongchang, predicting 29 a year ago and upping that to 31 in November.

At least one player on the world juniors team, defenseman Cale Makar, reportedly declined an invitation to represent Canada at the Olympics.

"We have removed all 19 of the projected OAR medallists from this version of the virtual medal table", Gracenote said in the statement. The Canadian men have won three of the last four hockey golds, including the last two in Sochi and Vancouver.

The women's team was named in late December, though the roster contains no B.C. ties, let alone Vancouverites.

Scrivens, 31, now plays for Salavat Yulaev Ufa of the Kontinental Hockey League in Russian Federation.
