Chargers set to play in London in 2018

Chargers set to play in London in 2018

Philip Rivers makes a call during the Bridgestone International Series NFL match between San Diego Chargers and New Orleans Saints at Wembley Stadium on October 26, 2008 in London, England.

That game is followed by a double-header at Wembley with the Philadelphia Eagles making their debut in London against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The team is heading to Wembley Stadium for the first time in a decade, set to face the Titans in either Week 7 (Oct. 21) or Week 8 (Oct. 28) of the 2018 season.

English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur's new stadium will serve as the site for an NFL game for the first time ever in October, joining Wembley Stadium and Twickenham Stadium, as United Kingdom venues that have hosted American football.

Next season's slate across the pond includes matchups between the Seahawks and Raiders, Eagles and Jaguars, and finally, the Titans and Chargers. Both will be played at Wembley Stadium Oct. 21 and Oct. 28, although the order of games has not yet been determined.

The Raiders, Jaguars and Chargers agreed to give up a home game to play in London.

Many pointed to the Packers' road game against the Rams in 2018, but that game will stay in Los Angeles.

The six teams chosen to play in London next season have been revealed. The date will be announced later.

Next season's London matchup should be a good one. In the first-ever National Football League game played outside North America in August 1976, the Chargers played the St. Louis Cardinals in the Mainichi Star Bowl in Tokyo. If they end up being boring games, it's hard to say the National Football League didn't try its best to send over a trio of good games. If Gruden decides he wants Lynch to play a second season with Oakland (he ran for 891 yards and seven TDs in 2017), the London game will be his first against the Seahawks, for whom he played from 2010-15.

Teams don't like giving up home games, but the ones that are most vulnerable are the ones that have trouble selling tickets.
