Australia recall White to replace Lynn for England ODIs

Australia recall White to replace Lynn for England ODIs

After three years in the global wilderness and with his stinging criticism of the Australia selectors still ringing clear, it is little surprise that Cameron White was somewhat taken aback to be recalled to his country's white-ball squad for the series against England.

White, who last featured for Australia in January 2015 has been named as a replacement for hard-hitting batsman Chris Lynn after the latter suffered a calf injury that has ruled him out of the series. It doesn't make a lot of sense. "They're [the selectors] rewarding him on performance, and I think that's great".

The Victorian right-hander has been in outstanding limited-overs form with 285 runs at an average of 142.5 and a strike-rate of 115.85 for the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League.

Neds have Maxwell's Melbourne Stars at a long-shot $81 to win the BBL, with White's Renegades at $3.75 - equal favourites with the Adelaide Strikers. Hopefully during this period of time, it might be a good chance to talk it over.

White scored 199 runs at 49.75 in four One-Day Cup appearances for Victoria at the start of the Australian season, but concedes he thought his chances at an global recall had faded.

"Making a few runs in the Big Bash hasn't hurt", he quipped.

"It's just going to be up to me to make the most of it".

"In the back of my mind I probably never gave up all hope".

When asked which position he is expecting to play, White said, "I've got no idea, we've got a team meeting coming up shortly so I might get a bit more of an idea there", White said. "He's playing very well", said national selector Trevor Hohns.
