There were "cases of dehydration and high blood pressure but nothing serious", he said.

As reported by Times Live, the portfolio committee on mineral resources in Parliament criticized the power outage and resulting ordeal suffered by the miners.

The miners remained trapped for two days after a power cut affected the lifts in the mine on Wednesday.

Spokesperson James Wellsted says they're working on getting generators to bring the miners to surface.

In a statement, the Chamber congratulated the mine, rescue services, unions and all other parties who worked together to ensure the successful rescue of all the trapped miners.

Siyabonga Sikade, who is part of the Free State ANC Youth League's provincial executive committee, said he also found out from news reports that his uncle, who was on nightshift, was trapped in the mine. This goes to demonstrate the attitude of management towards safety, said Mr Sahlulele Luzipo, Chairperson of the Committee.

Wellstad added that, during the course of Thursday, they managed to rescue 272 miners from shaft four and 64 from shaft one.

The workers could not get out as the lifts that bring them up stopped working because of the power outage. Mine safety is a serious concern in the country, which operates some of the world's deepest and most risky mines. The miners were trapped for almost two days after power went down at the gold mine.

Food and water were delivered to the trapped miners while they waited for power to be restored so that elevators could ferry them to the surface.

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) said it wants the government to investigate the cause.

"We are experiencing some issues, but they [the miners] have all been accounted for", Wellsted said.
