Pre-teen Girl Shoots Five People in Los Angeles

Neither student has been publicly identified, but they're both 15 years old; one is a boy and the other is girl. A 30-year-old woman who was treated after the shooting was not hospitalized and the nature of her injury was not immediately known.

Most weapons "that our young people get their hands on" come from their homes or those of other family members, Los Angeles School Police Department Chief Steve Zipperman said. "It's still under investigation, still fluid". Accordingly, if security would have been increased already, the school shooting events would've not happened.

The boy, who was shot in the temple, was in stable condition Thursday afternoon, and was expected to fully recover, according to Dr. Carl Chudnofsky, of L.A. County-USC Medical Center...

Police interviewed the girl and agreed it was an accident.

The U.S. Gun Violence Archive, an organization that tracks shootings in the U.S., said there were more than 2,000 documented unintentional shootings in the country in 2017 alone.

Sgt. Edward Bernal of the Los Angeles Unified District Police Department said: "With the suspect in custody, the situation is under control".

About 360 students from the sixth to the eighth grade attend the middle school, located in one of Los Angeles's most densely populated neighborhoods. "I said, 'No.' Then I moved away from her because I was a little bit scared". The female "person of interest" is a 12-year-old girl.

Officers were seen bringing students out of classrooms after the incident and the school was declared safe hours later. Three others suffered minor injuries, Capt. Erik Scott with the Los Angeles Fire Department told the Los Angeles Times.

School officials said students at middle and high schools are subject to daily random searches for weapons using metal-detector wands.

Authorities say there is no further threat at a Los Angeles school where two teens were shot and a female student was arrested. He said tersely that every secondary school in the district has "policies and procedures" in place to protect students. Local news agency CNS reported that a 15-year-old girl, possibly a fellow student, had been arrested.
