Deputy Micah Flick of the El Paso County Sheriff's office was killed by a male gunman during a vehicle theft investigation, Sheriff Bill Elder said in a press conference, according to ABC News.

Colorado Springs police officers and sheriff's deputies rushed to the Murray Hill Apartments, near North Murray Boulevard and Galley Road east of The Citadel Mall, shortly after the shooting at about 4 p.m. Monday.

A procession will take a slain El Paso County sheriff's deputy across Colorado Springs at 7:30 p.m. Monday, the Sheriff's Office said. Police said all suspects in the incident are accounted for.

In a statement, Colorado governor John Hickenlooper called Flick's death a "senseless act of violence" and asked Colorado residents to provide sympathy to his family and pray for the injured.

He was an 11-year veteran of the sheriff's department.

Douglas County deputy Zack Parrish was shot and killed on December 31, 2017 by a suspect who later died.

Carey said the only suspect was killed.

"The feeling of the sheriffs is the same as the public", Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith said Monday night.
