Mets agree to deal with third baseman Todd Frazier, sources say

The Mets lineup figures to be significantly deeper and more powerful with this signing and gives NY a more capable bench offensively.

According to FanRag Sports' Jon Heyman, Frazier's deal includes no incentives and is without a no-trade clause, though Frazier would get a $500,000 bonus if the Mets made a decision to move him. Nevertheless, Frazier was able to land a multi-year deal and guarantee himself an everyday job. The Reds, who went into rebuilding mode soon after hosting the All-Star Game, dealt Frazier to the White Sox in December in a three-team, seven-player swap.

Free agent third baseman and Yankees fan favorite Todd Frazier will be taking his talents, and his thumbs, to Flushing.

Chase Headley, the starter at third last season until Frazier arrived, was moved to the San Diego Padres in December, so the Yankees also in-house candidates at third besides Andujar are utility infielders Ronald Torreyes and Tyler Wade. If nothing else, the Mets should be able to expect a considerable amount of power from Frazier. Wright has no intention of retiring right now and is hopeful that he can play this season in some capacity. Frazier, known for his big, effusive personality, immediately had an impact in the clubhouse; he took on a leadership role, which is unusual for a player who arrived during the season in a trade. His addition will allow the Mets to move Asdrubal Cabrera to second base, where Cabrera is more comfortable.

Cabrera has publicly stated in the past his desire to play second base rather than third.

The Mets will have a new look on both corners after signing aging free agent slugger Adrian Gonzalez to man first base in January. That motley assortment was a gruesome 17 runs below average according to DRS, with Flores (-8) and Reyes (-5) the worst offenders.
