Court suspends any criminal proceedings against Miguna Miguna

"What they are doing is reminiscent of the assassination of JM Kariuki and other political detainees who have died due to government illegal actions", said Havi.

Four of Kenya's popular TV channels were switched off last week for attempting to broadcast the "inauguration" of opposition leader Raila Odinga as the "people's president". "The laws are clear".

Miguna was arrested on Friday in a dawn raid on his home. It was seen as an example of how Kenya's rule of law actually held sway. But a year ago also produced a heavy body count ( during the protracted election period and was found murdered), the deputy Supreme Court judge's driver was shot at and injured, and several Supreme Court on postponement of the October polls.

Earlier on Tuesday, Inspector general (IG) Joseph Boinnet and Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti sent representatives in court despite a Monday order compelling them to appear in person with Miguna Miguna.

Miguna told a magistrate there that he can not take a plea in the court because "Justice Luka Kimaru is waiting for me at the Milimani Law courts in Nairobi". He was granted bail of 50,000 Kenyan shillings ($500) but has remained in police custody with his whereabouts unknown until he appeared in court in Kajiado County, neighbouring Nairobi, on Tuesday to hear the charges.

Justice Kimaru had directed that police present him before court Wednesday at 11am.

The self-declared general of the outlawed NRM faction, Miguna Miguna has declined to take plea at the Kajiado Court where he was arraigned today morning.

Mr Miguna was arrested last Friday and on the same day High Court Judge James Wakiaga granted him a Sh50,000 bond but he was not released.

The unprecedented act of censorship sparked a local and worldwide backlash against the government of President Uhuru Kenyatta, who won an election in October.

Hours before the event, the Kenyan communication authority cut signals of several television and radio channels including Citizen media, NTV and KTN who planned on covering the swearing-in.
