Hyundai Santa Fe first OFFICIAL photos arrive

The first fully-revamped Santa Fe to be rolled out in six years comes as the carmaker badly needs a new SUV to drive up sales in major markets like the US, where the demand for crossovers has been on the rise. The front is a complex and curious combination of split headlights, muscular hood and the brand's new Cascading Grille. Unfortunately, no rear image is available at this time.

Inside buyers will find an overall interior design that is an evolution of today's Santa Fe. The center console has a few things in common with the aforementioned Kona, with the infotainment system sticking out on the upper side of the center console so that the driver won't have to take his eyes off the road ahead. The middle screen looks entirely digital.

In terms of technology, the Santa Fe will be offered with BlueLink 2.0 (free for five years, up from two currently), which provides telematics services such as remote start, security and vehicle management functions, and real-time navigation guidance via smartphone connectivity.

Also new to Hyundai is a Safety Exit Assist system, which uses sensors in the rear of the auto to prevent rear-seat passengers from opening the doors into the path of approaching traffic, and warns front-seat passengers if they are about to do so. An eight-speed automatic transmission and Hyundai's HTRAC all-wheel drive system are standard across the range. It will also feature Safety Exist Assist, which locks the doors temporarily to prevent occupants from opening a door into another vehicle approaching from behind.

Hyundai has fully revealed the next-generation Santa Fe in these new photos, and like we surmised from previous renderings, it looks a lot like the Kona.

The new Santa Fe will get its full reveal later this month, with more information about Australian cars closer to the launch.
