Amazon Prime members can get free two-hour delivery from Whole Foods

Amazon Prime members can get free two-hour delivery from Whole Foods

The perk is now available in four cities (Austin, Cincinnati, Dallas and Virginia Beach), though the service is set to expand to the rest of the country later this year.

You can expect most (but not all) of the items you'd find in an actual Whole Foods store, including booze.

Whole Foods now charges for delivery via Instacart.

Amazon and its subsidiary Whole Foods have started a trial program in four United States cities to deliver groceries and other goods directly from Whole Foods.

Those cities will be the initial battlegrounds, and there are plans to roll out the service nationwide.

"This is where we're starting", Stephenie Landry, the vice president of Prime Now, told The Seattle Times.

Launched in 2005, Prime is Amazon's paid-membership program that gives access to a number of benefits, including free two-day shipping, unlimited video streaming and online storage space.

Delivery from Whole Foods Market through Prime Now is available daily from 8 a.m.to 10 p.m. Under his leadership, Prime thrived to become one of the most successful customer loyalty programs anywhere, and added new services like Prime Now, a one-hour delivery option, and Prime Day, Amazon's one-day annual shopping event.

In related news, Amazon said Thursday that it will offer through its Prime Now service in select cities.

Thomson Reuters Tomatoes are pictured at a Whole Foods store in San Diego. And recent stocking issues at Whole Foods prompted analysts at Barclays Plc to say earlier this week that pressure on competitors in the industry had "abated".

A 2017 Morgan Stanley survey of Prime members showed Prime Now grocery orders increasing.

The survey was done before the Whole Foods acquisition's close and before its products were put on Amazon, so it's possible that adoption has increased even more.

It's tempting to look at Prime Now as Amazon's vehicle for dominating grocery, an area in which it previously struggled.

If people want food faster, Amazon will deliver groceries within one-hour for $7.99.
