NY state sues Weinstein Company

He has been accused of sexual harassment or abuse by more than 60 women. It targets Harvey Weinstein for allegations of sexual misconduct.

The Met Police are now investigating nine different accusations from women against Weinstein.

The New York Attorney General's office has filed a blistering civil rights lawsuit against the Weinstein Co. and its founders, detailing a company culture that routinely violated the state's human rights laws and business regulations.

The lawsuit has halted a potential sale of the company. "Every New Yorker has a right to a workplace free of sexual harassment, intimidation, and fear".

The lawsuit alleges that the company broke NY law and violated the company's employees' rights by "failing to protect its employees from pervasive sexual harassment, intimidation, and discrimination", Schneiderman said in a statement. The standoff occurred because the Weinstein Company board rejected a settlement offer on Wednesday that potentially left them open to liability over sexual harassment claims against the company, according to an individual with knowledge of the talks.

The NYPD is also investigating rape allegations against Harvey Weinstein. The suit alleges that the COO failed to protect the company's employees.

Schneiderman's probe found that employees were subjected to various verbal threats from Weinstein such as "I will kill you, I will kill your family, and "you don't know what I can do".

A representative for Weinstein could not be immediately reached for comment Sunday.
