Syria says US-led strikes on Deir Ezzor a 'struggle crime'

Syria says US-led strikes on Deir Ezzor a 'struggle crime'

SANA said earlier that forces of the US-led global coalition targeted popular forces that were fighting the Islamic State group and the USA -backed Syrian Democratic Forces in the eastern province of Deir el-Zour.

Syrian ally Russian Federation has cast 11 vetoes on possible Security Council action on Syria since the civil war began in 2011, shielding Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government.

"The Syrian government renews its call to dissolve this illegitimate coalition", it said.

Recently, a funeral was held at the town of Al-Suqaylabiyah for ten of the ISIS Hunters soldiers killed in the USA airstrikes - many of them were Christians. Russian Federation said it did not have personnel in the area, and its defense ministry said it only confirmed 25 Syrian militia were wounded, and no deaths.

"The recent incident once again shows that the United States' illegal military presence in Syria is actually aimed at taking control of the country's economic assets and not at fighting against ISIS", a statement said. CNN also reported that HIMARS and MQ-9 drones were used in the attack.

Meanwhile, Washington tried to ease tensions on Thursday, with Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White saying in a news briefing that the USA was not "looking for a conflict with the regime".

The Syrian Foreign Ministry on Thursday strongly condemned the US-led air strikes, accusing the USA war planes of "committing a massacre" against pro-government forces.

"First of all, how could a 500-strong unit attack a headquarters with tank and artillery support and, as a result, inflict an injury on one counter-attacker?" asked Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova.

White said the attack on the SDF was unprovoked. Until launching the anti-ISIS campaign in 2014, Washington had sought the ouster of the government of President Bashar al-Assad by means of supporting and arming the Al Qaeda-linked militias out of which ISIS itself emerged. "If a ceasefire is not reached and if there is no response", she added, "we can not imagine the scale of the humanitarian disaster that Eastern Ghouta will witness".

Syrian regime forces' initial coordinated attack included tanks, howitzers and more, but only one US-backed SDF fighter was injured. The State Department issued a statement saying that the bombings "must stop now".

Damascus accused Washington on Thursday of committing a "war crime" in Syria after coalition airstrikes and artillery attacks killed scores of pro-government fighters in Deir Ezzor province, Reuters reported. Once again they are churning out propaganda to prepare for a military escalation that has the potential of triggering a direct military confrontation between the world's two major nuclear powers, the U.S. and Russian Federation.
