Arsene Wenger is still the man for Arsenal

Arsene Wenger is still the man for Arsenal

The loss leaves Arsenal in sixth place and 13 points behind Tottenham in fourth, while Brighton climb into the top half of the table.

Lewis Dunk and Glenn Murray put Brighton in firm control, with an atrocious display from the Arsenal players symptomatic of a failed managerial regime which is somehow still staggering along.

The former Cardiff City man had added real dynamism to Arsenal's midfield this season, with the highlight being his stunning hat-trick against Everton in the Premier League last month.

In the tweet below, Ferdinand claimed that the current Arsenal team is THE worst he has ever seen, regardless of the talent the players possess. The second half saw more fight from the visitors: Mat Ryan turned a vicious Ozil shot wide 12 minutes after half-time, with another scare quickly following when Aubameyang rounded the Brighton keeper but couldn't find a teammate from a narrow angle.

FW Henrikh Mkhitaryan, 4 - Arsenal have an army of playmakers but none of them were able to control the game, with Mkhitaryan the most ineffective of the lot.

Arsenal lost 2-1 to Brighton, and I think we're just about out of original things to say.

Instead, Arsenal betrayed the defensive frailties that have been a feature of their campaign and allowed Brighton to take control.

It only took Arsenal a few minutes to go behind, and fans immediately took to Twitter to brutally troll one of their own players. They continued to dominate play moving forward, and within twenty minutes, Albion could have been two goals to the good thanks to a misplaced pass by Alex Iwobi and some lapse defending by Laurent Koscielny. Ezequiel Schelotto's run and cross forced a corner on the left and Pascal Gross's kick was knocked back across goal by a combination of Duffy's head and Petr Cech's fists for Dunk to blast home.

It was almost 2-0 minutes later as Gross sent Cech sprawling to save at his near post, and Dunk headed over after 18 minutes from another corner by Gross.

Are Arsenal better off without Cech in goal?

But Arsenal halved the arrears two minutes before the break when Aubameyang flicked home a diagonal pass from Granit Xhaka.

The 35-year-old remains on 199 Premier League clean sheets, and is still waiting for his 200th.

And that was enough to spark chants of "We want Wenger out" in the away end.
