Do not forget to change your clocks: Daylight Saving Time starts this weekend

The Florida Legislature has passed a bill called the "Sunshine Protection Act" that would ask Congress to allow the state to stay year-round on daylight saving time, which now runs almost eight months of the year, from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November. For many Americans, the change is a problem to lose some sleep over.

Thus, when I have business meetings or social engagements to attend, I'll be one hour late or one hour early, but hardly ever on time.

Vetter, a stay-at-home mom who works part-time as a registered nurse at a local assisted living facility, says she feels daylight saving time was once an effective way to provide additional hours of daylight for farmers and ranchers, but feels its effectiveness has worn off in recent years. In 2007, Daylight Saving Time was extended by four weeks. He mentioned changing clocks in a satirical essay in 1794 which is why the concept is often mis-attributed to Franklin. In experiments around the world with year-round DST, people usually end up wanting to spring forward again.

If Florida has permanent daylight saving time, it would be an hour ahead of the rest of the East Coast for much of the year, joining Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the easternmost parts of Canada.

DST officially begins at 2 a.m. Sunday.

Many countries begin DST on different days, which causes confusion for global business communications.

It's nearly time to change the clocks again.

Get plenty of light in the morning: The light-dark cycle provides important information to our internal body clock. Many dog owners in Richmond discussed online that they can't wait for the time change because it allows them to walk their dog in the daylight after work.

Prior to going to bed Saturday night, Hoosiers are reminded to reset clocks one hour ahead.

In Washington, fore example, year-round standard time would look like this.

Arizona and Hawaii have rejected DST, so each year they effectively move one time zone to the west. Light exposure can moderate your circadian rhythm a bit, but the body more or less relies on consistent sleep and wakefulness cues - so when they're altered, even by an hour, your sleep gets misaligned.

In other studies on myocardial infarction (heart attack) and DST, similar bad effects have been seen during the week following the switch, Gaff reported.

Sunday, March 11th at 2 a.m. marks the time shift to "spring forward". Daylight saving time now accounts for about 65% of the year. As we move toward that possibility, we may find it easier to save lives and money rather than chase the daylight. But if Alabama joined them, along with other states whose residents are tired of the semiannual clock confusion, perhaps the feds could be persuaded that legislatures ought to have some say in whether they're on daylight saving or standard. Winston Churchill was a proponent during World War II. Would it be beneficial to keep our clocks forward the whole year and stop practicing Daylight Saving Time?

For instance, one reason Congress used in enacting daylight saving time is that it saves energy.
