On Women's Day, Matunga Rd station gets all-women staff

Ahead of the worldwide women's day, SCR General Manager Vinod Kumar Yadav handed over the responsibilities to a team of women on Tuesday to make Chagragiri, Guntakal division, the first such station in Andhra Pradesh, it has been reported.

To make it more unique, the division also ran Train No. 56902 Dharwad Hubballi daily passenger with an all-woman crew on board. Today the station is run exclusively by 41 women staffers, which include personnel from RPF, commercial and operating departments.

President of Southern Railway Womens' Welfare Organisation Anitha Verma presented prizes to the women employees who had won in various competitions held as part of the Women's Day.

To encourage women work force in Railways and to develop their moral and self confidence, South Central Railway (SCR) on Thursday, coinciding with International Women Day, launched four "All Women Railway Stations". The honour of driving the Deccan Queen Express was given to Asia's first female train driver Surekha Yadav.

Divisional Railway Manager of Hubballi Division Rajesh Mohan and other railway officials were present.

This would be the first time in East Central Railway's history that every post at a railway station would be taken over by women personnel. According to news reports, from March 8, both train no. 11029 DN Koyna Express and train no. 11008 UP Deccan Express will have women-only staff for good.

She said that the railways has entrusted women with great responsibility and they will live up to the organization's expectations.
