Richard Sherman Visiting 49ers, 'Real Chance' Deal Happens

Reports Saturday morning indicated it may not take long for Richard Sherman to find a new home after he was released by the Seahawks on Friday.

This dinner wasn't a friendly chit-chat, either, and that's because the 49ers appear to have some serious interest in bringing Sherman to San Francisco.

If healthy, Sherman, a four-time Pro Bowl selection who excels in physical man-to-man coverage, would be an ideal fit for the 49ers' 4-3 defense. Health will surely play a role in the type of contract Sherman receives in free agency.

"I want to go to a contender", Sherman said Friday on KIRO radio in Seattle.

Sherman's main surgery was completed by Dr. Robert Anderson, whose practice is located in Green Bay just around the corner from Lambeau Field. Smith, who caught Sherman's tip of a Colin Kaepernick pass for a game-clinching interception in the 2014 NFC title game, is under contract with the 49ers through 2021 after signing with them a year ago. Sherman went to high school in Southern California before heading to Stanford for college.

He will be 30 years old going into next season and coming off an Achilles tendon injury that cost him half of the 2017 season. Condotta says that the team was interested in trying to get Sherman to agree to a pay cut but that he "balked" at such a proposal.

Richard Sherman joining the Detroit Lions' secondary absolutely makes sense as pairing him with All-Pro cornerback Darius Slay and veteran safety Glover Quin would instantly make the Motor City a No-Fly zone. He joined the Packers' medical staff past year.

The 49ers are in need of a cornerback after they lost out to the NFC West rival Los Angeles Rams for Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib. In 2013, Sherman led the National Football League with eight interceptions, and his 32 career picks rank sixth among active players.
