Vancouver and Calgary International Airports all reported widespread delays and passengers formed long lines as they tried to get on board aircraft.

Earlier, Air Canada said in a statement its technology teams were working to identify and fix the issue, and it was also implementing temporary measures to maintain a limited operation. "We're now experiencing an interruption at our customer contact centers and [our website]", the carrier said.

As Air Canada customers raised concerns about the situation, Toronto's Pearson International Airport also told customers over Twitter the airline was experiencing IT issues and that it was affecting flight schedules.

Air Canada said on its website it's working to resolve the issue and apologizes for the inconvenience.

People hoping to fly on the airline are advised to check the status of their flights online.

He said Air Canada contacted the airport at 10 a.m.to say the problem stemmed from an IT issue.
