Vikings offer Kirk Cousins 3-year, $86M deal

Cousins is set to make his decision this week, after a few visits with teams, though it seems as though the Vikings are the frontrunners for his services at this early stage.

According to multiple sources, Kirk Cousins will be the next starting quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings.

Kirk Cousins' list of possible suitors was narrowed down to the Jets, Vikings and Cardinals on Tuesday.

At least that's the beauty in the details when it comes to Kirk Cousins, who wrote a goodbye note to Washington, the only franchise for which he's played. Over each his three full seasons as a starter, he has thrown for more than 4,000 yards with a completion percentage above 64 percent and at least 25 touchdowns. The Vikings possess a dynamic group of wide receivers led by Pro Bowler Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs along with a strong option at tight end in Kyle Rudolph. But for the Broncos to go from worst to near first in a year's time, the percentages are greater if they get either Cousins or Keenum, Keenum or Cousins.

The move comes after Case Keenum, last year's starter at quarterback, reached a deal to sign with Denver; he will do that Wednesday, the first official day of free agency.

The Vikings have reportedly offered Cousins a three-year deal with an average annual value of $28 million.

National Football League free agency opens Wednesday, March 14 at 4 p.m. and one of the most highly sought after players this offseason is a West Michigan native. He started every game the past three seasons, leading Washington to the playoffs in 2015 - his only postseason appearance. I will forever be grateful to Mike Shanahan for taking a chance on me in the 2012 draft.

"Thanks for having me, Washington, and thanks for making me into the player I am today!"

The Vikings, though, have the advantage of being much closer to the Super Bowl than the Jets. Following the combine, Minnesota was presumed to be the favorite to land the free-agent quarterback this year.

All those numbers suggest Cousins is a top 6 to 12 quarterback, but even good quarterbacks need good players around him.

The Jets now hold the No. 6 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, which is loaded with high-end quarterback prospects.
