Border states pledge 1600 troops for President Trump's border fight

Border states pledge 1600 troops for President Trump's border fight

"My administration has no choice but to act", he wrote.

Trump had said on Thursday that the final deployment would range from 2,000 to 4,000 troops, and he would "probably" keep many personnel on the border until his promised border wall is built.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott told San Antonio radio station KTSA that he would add about 300 troops a week until the total number reaches at least 1,000 troops.

"Whenever they're in a position where they could be confronted by someone who is very unsafe, they will be armed".

McMaster was one of Trump's earliest supporters in the 2016 Republican presidential primary but said there was nothing political about the deployment. Governor Doug Ducey says that is the name for the plan to deploy National Guardsmen to supplement the Border Patrol.

"This mission is about providing manpower and resources to support federal, state, county, tribal and local law enforcement agencies in stopping the flow of criminals, narcotics, weapons and ammunition that is being trafficked into our state", Ducey said.

"I don't suppose it's a partisan downside or an id downside", he talked about. "You show me somebody who is for drug cartels or human trafficking or this ammunition that's coming over a wide-open and unprotected border here".

If 4,000 troops were deployed, that would be about double the current USA military presence in Syria and about half as many as the number of U.S. troops in Iraq.

The Republican Ducey in a tweet Monday said more of the state's Guard members will be deployed on Tuesday.

The Republican Doug Ducey made the comments Monday after he saw off some of the 250 troops that Arizona is sending in response to President Donald Trump's plan to send up to 4,000 troops to the border.

Mr Brown's spokesman, Evan Westrup, said California officials still were reviewing Mr Trump's troop request.

Brown has repeatedly fought with Trump over immigration policy.

After plunging at the start of Trump's presidency, the numbers of migrants apprehended at the southwest border have started to rise in line with historical trends.

The National Guard has previously been deployed to help patrol the southern border, including in 2010 under former president Barack Obama, and from 2006-2008 under George W. Bush.

In Mexico Metropolis, a caravan of Central American migrants that had been heading north stopped inside the Mexican capital.

California has not decided whether to send National Guard members to the border with Mexico to help President Donald Trump's deployment of troops to fight illegal immigration and drug trafficking.
