Facebook to notify users affected by data breach

Facebook to notify users affected by data breach

It comes after online technology news publisher TechCrunch reported Facebook has been secretly deleting some messages its CEO Mark Zuckerberg sent through its Messenger application.

Zuckerberg said on Friday that he also wanted to shed more light on "issue ads", or ads that discuss a political subject but do not directly relate to an election or a candidacy. A Canadian federal agency tasked with protecting privacy rights of individuals said last week it will investigate Facebook and AggregateIQ.

Cambridge Analytica was employed by Donald Trump's presidential campaign.

Cambridge Analytica later obtained information from the app for about 50 million Facebook users, as the app also vacuumed up data on people's friends - including those who never downloaded the app or gave explicit consent.

Several Wall Street analysts said the stock's decline presented a good opportunity to buy into the social network's previously high-flying shares, although they cautioned that much will depend on Zuckerberg's testimony to Congress.

Cambridge Analytica said in a statement Wednesday that it had data for only 30 million people. Medical data on patient's illnesses and prescriptions would be matched to their social data from Facebook, using hashing to obscure their actual names. He has spent more than eight years covering the ways that tech companies like Apple, Facebook and Google navigate the corridors of government - and the regulations that sometimes result. However, the way the data was harvested by firms such as Cambridge Analytica, and rest assured they were not the only ones, nearly always with the full knowledge and even support of Facebook has been a monumental breach of trust by Mark Zuckerberg whose personal ethics are under a cloud. It is the user's responsibility to read how data is being used. "I'm really sorry for that".

Prior to the most recent revelations, the social network had been coolly defiant about serving as a vehicle for malicious actors to carry out fake news campaigns and clog the newsfeed of its users.

Facebook is under intense pressure after the data of millions of its users ended up in the hands of political consultancy Cambridge Analytica. If I get a sponsored ad from Tofurkey on my feed every now and then, so what.

In February, U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller charged 13 Russians and three Russian companies with interfering in the election by sowing discord on social media.

What provisions of the GDPR will be implemented in the United States?

He said it was "insane" that Facebook had yet to take legal action against Cambridge parent SCL Group over the inappropriate data use.

A day after it came to known that Facebook secretly deleted messages sent by Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook said it is planning to roll out the feature for everyone.

He said personal data including email addresses and in some cases private messages was allowed to leave Facebook servers with no real controls on how the data was used after that.

To get authorised by Facebook, "advertisers will need to confirm their identity and location", the statement said.
