Champions League: Liverpool, Roma advance

Alessandro Florenzi believes Roma outclassed Barcelona tactically and performed "perfectly" as they won 3-0 to pull off one of the Champions League's greatest comebacks and reach the semi-finals.

In the 82nd minute of the game, Kostas Manolas, who also scored an own goal in the previous fixture, sent the home fans into a frenzy as he made it 3-0 for Roma.

Roma took the lead in the 6th minute through Edin Džeko, the ideal start to mount the comeback, but they still needed two more as well as a clean sheet.

Roma doubled their tally in the 58th minute when Dzeko was chopped down by Gerard Pique and De Rossi slotted home the spot-kick.

Barcelona strikers Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez hardly threatened as Roma dominated possession for long stretches and stifled the Catalan club with high pressure.

Shortly after the half-hour mark, Roma fans protested for a perceived hand ball inside the area but it appeared that Samuel Umtiti used his chest to deflect a shot from Schick.

"We came here to try to win the match".

"[Roma] pinned us back and we didn't know how to react, how to create chances, we were poorly positioned.it was everything [that was wrong]", Busquets told reporters after the game.

The shock result means Eusebio Di Francesco side are now dreaming of Champions League glory and could meet Liverpool in the semi-finals.

Going into the game 4-1 ahead on aggregate, Barca were such short favourites that some bookmakers were not even taking bets on the outcome. "In the first leg they denied us two penalties but tonight we showed that Roma can play with and beat anyone".

"A failure without excuses", said their front cover, with an editorial adding: "Valverde's fear leaves Barca without another Champions League in the era of Messi".

But City's Leroy Sane had a goal wrongly disallowed for offside just before the break, and Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino both netted after the break for Liverpool. "But when you don't do things well, when you make a lot of mistakes and when you don't adapt to the game, this happens". It's a very big disappointment after the great season we have had. "I'm happy and I think the club are too".

De Rossi flashed a header wide in the 69th minute, and 10 minutes later it looked like Ter Stegen had saved the away side's skin with an incredible close-range stop from Stephan El Shaarawy.
