The New York Knicks part ways with coach Jeff Hornacek

"We sincerely appreciate his efforts and considerable contributions to the team and wish him well in his future endeavors".

The Knicks' associate head coach, Kurt Rambis, was also fired.

The decision to fire Hornacek was made by Knicks president Steve Mills and general manager Scott Perry, according to Wojnarowski.

Hornacek was 60-104 (.366) overall in his two seasons at the helm in NY.

The New York Knicks will open their offseason with a coaching search. That doesn't mean it isn't something Knicks fans will harp on until the next coach officially signs on the dotted line.

The Knicks are determined to remain on a course of player development building around Kristaps Porzingis.

The Knicks are seriously aiming the free agent market in the summer of 2019 when they will have significant salary-cap space and Porzingis back to full strength. Wojnarowski also reported that former National Basketball Association star and current G League coach, Jerry Stackhouse, is another candidate.

Things have been a little old school during the last few years in the Big Apple, with remnants of Phil Jackson's tenure still in place, despite his dismissal prior to the start of the 2017-18 season.

The Knicks will have an open head coach search and will consider college candidates like Villanova Wildcats coach Jay Wright as well as worldwide options like former Cleveland Cavaliers and Euroleague coach David Blatt.

Another interesting name is Villanova head coach Jay Wright.

NY hasn't reached the playoffs in five seasons and has one playoff series win in the past 18 years. "Management informed Hornacek of decision upon returning to NY late tonight". The Knicks finished this season 29-53, good for 11th place in the Eastern Conference. His teams missed the playoffs both years.
