Cohen facilitated $1.6 million payment on behalf of GOP fundraiser

Cohen facilitated $1.6 million payment on behalf of GOP fundraiser

The revelation shines an even brighter light on Cohen, who is already under pressure after his office was raided by investigators seeking records related to payments to two women who claim they had sexual relationships with Trump.

"She alone decided that she did not want to continue with the pregnancy, and I offered to help her financially during this hard period", Broidy said in a statement following both reports.

"At the end of our relationship, this woman shared with me that she was pregnant", he said.

"She alone decided that she did not want to continue with the pregnancy and I offered to help her financially during this hard period", he said in a statement to the Journal. It also prevents her from pursuing "what she said were potential legal claims against Mr. Broidy, according to the person familiar with the matter".

The contract states that she had the right to seek child support payments if she chose to carry out the pregnancy, although she ultimately made a decision to have an abortion.

The $1.6 million sum was scheduled to be paid to the woman in installments, beginning in December 2017 and being parceled out over the course of two years, the newspaper reported. He has met with Trump frequently at Mar-a-Lago and at the White House.

Broidy added that he retained Cohen's services to strike the deal due to Cohen's prior relationship with Keith Davidson, the unnamed woman's attorney. Broidy said Cohen reached out to him after being contacted by Keith Davidson, the woman's attorney. Cohen didn't respond to requests for comment from the outlet.

The raid is connected to the investigations of Cohen's alleged bank fraud and campaign finance legal violations connected to the Stormy Daniels hush-money payment.

A source familiar with the situation said Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel has accepted Broidy's resignation.

Cohen used the same pseudonyms in a non-disclosure agreement between Broidy and the Playmate that he used in a similar agreement that involved Trump and Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford.

Cohen's work on the Broidy settlement came after he negotiated a deal in October 2016, agreeing to pay $130,000 to adult-film star Stormy Daniels, who alleged that she had a sexual encounter with Trump a decade earlier. Last month, Broidy co-hosted a fundraiser for Trump's re-election campaign in Los Angeles. Daniels has sued Cohen and Trump, claiming the contract is invalid.

Broidy, an investor, already was in the sights of the special prosecutor, Robert Mueller, because of his relationship with George Nader, a businessman who serves as an adviser to the de facto ruler of the United Arab Emirates, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahya.

Davidson and Cohen were also in communication about a third agreement involving former Playboy centerfold Karen McDougal. AMI has asked the judge to dismiss the case, arguing that the deal is protected under the First Amendment.
