Yemen's Houthis claim downing of United States drone in Red Sea port city

"I am convinced that there is a real danger of this", said the envoy.

Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said that reaching a political solution in Yemen is only up to the Houthi militia, not to Saudi Arabia or any other global organization.

The missile was sacked in the direction of the southern Saudi city of Najran and was aimed at civilians, Maliki said, repeating accusations that Iran has been supplying the Houthis with the missiles.

Saudi Arabia in March 2015 launched a coalition of Arab states fighting to roll back Houthi rebels in Yemen and restore the country's internationally-recognised government to power.

Maliki told reporters in the eastern city of al-Khobar that the airport of rebel-held capital Sanaa was used as a military base to orchestrate the drone strike.

On Oct. 1, 2017, the Houthis said they fired a surface-to-air missile and shot down a USA -made General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper drone in the north of Sanaa.

The Houthis have fired dozens of missiles into Saudi Arabia since past year, all of which were intercepted.

"The air defense forces of the army and popular forces shot down a U.S. Air Force MQ-9 Reaper drone in Hodeidah", Houthis said in a statement posted on the Saba News Agency controlled by the rebels.

The war in Yemen has been described by the United Nations as the world's worst humanitarian crisis, with more than 75 percent of the population, or about 22 million people, in need of aid, while seven million are on the brink of starvation.
