Eagles select TE Dallas Goedert with the 49th pick

The Eagles traded to pick No. 49 to grab the 6-foot-5, 256-pound tight end, giving up picks in the second and fifth rounds to move up from the 52nd pick to grab the Jackrabbit. Six-time Pro Bowl kicker David Akers needled Cowboys fans when he made the announcement in their stadium.

Akers obviously has some bragging rights as the Eagles are Super Bowl champions, but his zinger about the players the Cowboys and every other team picking not even being born the last time the Cowboys won a championship?

Saturday, the Eagles selected Florida State defensive end Josh Sweat with the No. 130 overall pick. That pick turned out to be Dallas Goedert, tight end from South Dakota State. "Dallas is a blue-collar kid that works extremely hard".

"This is a guy that we felt dominated at that level of play", vice president of player personnel Joe Douglas said.

The Cowboys, who lost future Hall of Famer Jason Witten to retirement earlier in the day, were expected to take Goedert with the 50th pick. "Then he said something about "get ready" and then 'we've got some business to do.' And I said I'm excited and I can't wait to get out there and play with you".

He caught 72 passes for 1,111 yards and seven touchdowns in his senior season, just below his 92 catch, 1,293 yard, 11 TD junior campaign. He'll team with Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz to help Philadelphia's offense create mismatches.

"It's going to add some depth and competition to the position", head coach Doug Pederson said.

Goedert said he's had some interaction with Wentz leading up to the draft with the two former Missouri Valley stars sharing the same Rep 1 Sports agency out of Irvine, Calif. Goedert said Wentz was one of the first people to send him a text message after Goedert got the call from the Eagles. According to Roseman, Wentz had been talking up Goedert in the building during the pre-draft process, and let the front office know that this pick had his stamp of approval afterward. Now they're holding four picks, including two in the fourth round. He was the 49th overall pick and the third tight end taken in the 2018 draft.
