Stan Lee files $1B lawsuit against POW! Entertainment for 'stealing' his name

Stan Lee, who is best known for creating the expansive and beloved Marvel Universe, has recently filed a $1 billion lawsuit against POW! According to the suit, CEO Shane Duffy and Gill Champion used this health condition against him and swindled him into signing over his name.

Lee formed POW! in 2001 as a holding company of sorts for his vast library of intellectual property for film, television, animation, and comics, among other content. Camsing International acquired POW! in 2017 for an undisclosed price and placed its US vice president Shane Duffy as POW!'s CEO.

Lee's lawsuit claims that the defendants cruelly capitalized on Lee being distracted due to the 2017 death of his wife of 70 years, as well as taking advantage of the fact that he suffers from macular degeneration that would have made it virtually impossible for Lee to read any documents relating to the transaction.

Lee claims he doesn't recall anyone reading the document to him (which is essential as Lee's macular degeneration has rendered him legally blind).

The suit, filed through attorney Adam DH Grant, seeks to rescind the license agreement as well as "damages in excess of one billion dollars".

According to the documents, Lee had no idea a sale was in the offing. "Inc. the exclusive use of Lee's identity, name, image, and likeness and each of them knew that their objective was unlawful and they meant to aid each other in achieving that unlawful objective", it added. Stan Lee claims that the company conspired to steal his identity during a fraudulent transaction with a Chinese business previous year. It accuses them of brokering the deal to sell POW! while Stan "was in a state of total devastation" over his ailing wife and that they "never disclosed the actual terms of the deal to Lee before closing it". Lee claims he got conned into an agreement.

"From now on, I will depend on you, my dear fans, to protect and defend me". The complaint also states that Camsing was given access to his Twitter, Facebook, Instagram accounts against Lee's wishes. I love you guys and am so happy I have control of my Twitter account back. "Can you guys help?"

There were more negative headlines when it emerged last month that Lee was being sued by massage therapist Maria Carballo for sexual assault and battery.
