Warriors’ Game 6 Revival Keeps Series Alive Against the Rockets

Warriors’ Game 6 Revival Keeps Series Alive Against the Rockets

It's beginning to sound as if the Houston Rockets will indeed be without Chris Paul for Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals.

Paul injured the hamstring in the final seconds of Game 5 Thursday night following a fadeaway shot over Warriors' guard Quinn Cook.

During Saturday's Game 6, Golden State Warriors were down to the Rockets by 17 by the end of the first quarter before realizing they were the Golden State Warriors.

Klay Thompson led the way with 35 points on absurd 9-of-14 shooting from deep, a performance reminiscent of his 2016 Game 6 against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Team doctors will re-evaluate Paul on Monday, with the decision on his availability to be determined by tipoff. The Rockets actually led 39-22 after one quarter, but the lead was cut to 10 by halftime. Thompson stayed in rhythm most of the night while Curry (29 points) and Durant (23) went through off-and-on cold stretches and afterward joked how he was "born" for this.

Will the Rockets have Chris Paul for Game 7?

Whether Paul plays or not, the Warriors have likely dodged their toughest competition at the very last moment en route to defend their crown. The Rockets can't blame this loss exclusively on Paul's hamstring injury, but his absence had a clear effect on Houston's already thin rotation.

The Rockets were behind by 13 after a 3 by Curry and had missed 27 straight 3-pointers when P.J. Tucker hit one from the corner to cut the lead to 89-79 midway through the quarter. The victory also propelled the Cavs to the NBA Finals with a chance to win their second championship in three years. The team is in Houston for Game 7.

"So you never want to go to Game 7, but when you're down 3-2, you definitely want to do". It's no coincidence that Curry and Thompson both had a huge game in Paul's absence. The longer the Warriors played their trademark style of basketball, the better looks they found as the game continued.

How many more times must Morey tweak the Rockets here in the Harden era before Houston finally strikes gold.

If the Rockets manage to pull off the upset in front of their home-court crowd, there is hope for a competitive finals series after all, with Paul still rehabbing. The head coach says Paul's recovery is going well, but he's going to be listed as questionable for Monday's game. It's a bummer that he won't get to play in the biggest game of his career, with a spot in the NBA Finals on the line, but that's the unfortunate situation.

Wait. 31-9? Yes, Houston hit only four shots in the last period, and Luc Mbah a Moute missed the team's only free throw attempts. I also expect CP3 to play, as he's too much of a competitor to sit out a game seven with a finals berth on the line.
