IOS 11.4 Update Brings Messages in iCloud & AirPlay 2 Support

Apple says that many other AirPlay 2-compatible speakers are on the horizon, including devices from Bang & Olufsen, Bluesound, Bose, Bowers & Wilkins, Denon, Libratone, Marantz, Marshall, Naim, Pioneer, and Sonos. Just launch the Settings app, tap on General and scroll down to Software Update. That now changes with iOS 11.4.

Apple introduced AirPlay in 2011 which was first known as AirTunes. Apple released the update only a week before its WWDC annual event. But, with AirPlay 2, you can finally pick a song and control the volume of your AirPlay 2-enabled speaker from Control Center, Music app, Home app, the Lock screen, or in-app controls on your Apple devices. Apple's own HomePods will be automatically supported so there will be no need to manually group speakers. Otherwise, if you hit your limit you'll find that your devices will no longer back up to iCloud, you won't be able to send or receive emails with your iCloud email account, new photos and videos won't be uploaded to your iCloud Photo Library, and that features such as iCloud Drive, other iCloud apps, and your text messages won't stay up to date across all your devices. Having said that, Apple is offering features such as location sensing and advanced beamforming to take on the competition.

Apple has released iOS 11.4 which means we all get to finally try AirPlay 2, Apple's streaming feature that has been in development for nearly a year now. This will also help users free up space on their iPhones. But obviously, that's a downside too since it uses your allotted iCloud Drive storage for syncing messages.

iPhone users will be pleased to see AirPlay 2 support come to so many third-party speakers, especially given the mixed reception afforded to Apple's expensive HomePod speaker. In stereo mode, the algorithms have two drivers and two sets of tweeters through which to distribute the left and right sounds, with physical separation between them. With this update, HomePod speakers which are paired will adjust the sound based on the location of each speaker. Apple has also since licensed the AirPlay to manufacturers for them to use in their products in order to be compatible with Apple's devices. More issues like CarPlay audio sounding distorted and selecting music on iPhone over Bluetooth devices have been fixed. Uses who couldn't login or access files on Google Drive, Docs and Gmail in Safari should be able to with iOS 11.4.
