Netanyahu's wife charged with $100000 food delivery fraud

In the indictment, the attorney-general alleged that from September 2010 until March 2013, Netanyahu acted in coordination with then-Prime Minister's Office deputy director-general Ezra Seidoff to present the false misrepresentation that the Prime Minister's Residence did not employ a cook, even though it did during that time.

The indictment against Sara Netanyahu comes months after Israel's justice ministry said she might face charges over the costly meals. The charges, which are referred to as "Meals-Ordering Affair", are denied by Sara Netanyahu on various occasions.

Sara Netanyahu, the wife of Israel's prime minister, has been charged with fraud and breach of trust for allegedly using public funds to pay for restaurant meals to be delivered to the couple's official residence.

Although the indictment against Sara Netanyahu did not directly affect the prime minister, it ended a period of political victories that had bolstered the Israeli leader and distracted attention from his legal woes.

Cohen has said that if the charges only related to NIS 30,000-NIS 40,000 at most, they could be dropped as relating to an oversight.

In a statement posted on the prime minister's Facebook page, her lawyers called the indictment "baseless and delusional". Regulations forbid ordering prepared food when a cook is employed at the residence.

In one case, he and family members are suspected of receiving one million shekels (US$285,000) worth of luxury cigars, champagne and jewellery from wealthy personalities in exchange for financial or personal favours.

The PM also faces several police investigations into alleged corruption.

In another case, ("Case 2,000") investigators suspect the premier of trying to reach an agreement with the owner of Yediot Aharonot, a top Israeli daily newspaper, for more favorable coverage of himself and his wife.

The Jerusalem District Attorney's Office said the decision to indict both Mrs Netanyahu and Mr Seidoff was made "after reviewing all evidence and weighing all circumstances of the case".
