Paul McCartney Joins James Corden for Carpool Karaoke

Paul McCartney Joins James Corden for Carpool Karaoke

James Corden has recruited some big names in the past to ride around and sing their songs with him for his Carpool Karaoke segment on The Late Late Show.

A jolly good sport who genuinely looks like he had the best time, McCartney runs through some of his most iconic numbers, from the thematically necessary "Drive My Car", to "Penny Lane", and the first song he ever wrote at 14. "Just let it be.'" McCartney recalled.

"Oh man, it got me emotional there, Paul", Corden says as the song comes to an end. I hope you like it.

The singer then went on to share a bit of background on the origins of one of their most uplifting songs, "Let It Be", off the band's final studio album in 1970.

Corden labelled it "the most handsome story" he has ever heard, before the pair perform a version of it.

A visit to the famous Penny Lane was followed by a call at the singer's childhood home before the visit culminated in an emotional singalong at a city centre pub.

He said: "I'm in Liverpool, and I need your help". "She gave me the positive word".

The Late Late Show host then began to cry and revealed that his grandfather and father once sat him down and played him Let It Be. "I had to text him back and was like, 'No dude, that's not what we meant.' What we were trying to say was it was uncomfortable to sit in a auto and try to sing our own songs".

While in the house, McCartney showed Corden where he and John Lennon would rehearse and write, and recounted the moment he and Lennon finished writing "She Loves You".

He played A Hard Day's Night, Love Me Do, Back In The USSR and Hey Jude as members of the audience cried.

After getting back in the vehicle - where Corden tried out a few classic Beatles looks, from the moptop wig to the Sgt. Pepper uniforms - they ended up at a pub.
