Strike a pose for Int'l Yoga Day

Nepali people celebrated the 4th International Day of Yoga with enthusiasm on Thursday.

Agastya Muni, one of the Satyas, has worked in India to make yoga a part of life.

The PM is leading the celebration of fourth worldwide Yoga day with Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Suresh Prabhu, Uma Bharti, Ram Vilas Paswan, Ravi Shankar Prasad participating in yoga events in Lucknow, Nagpur, Chennai, Rudraprayag, Hajipur and Patna respectively. A research exercise was undertaken on the spot by all present to introspect on reasons for not adopting yoga in their daily routine, said the statement.

"As the Sun is for all, the Moon is for all, rivers are for all, in the same way yoga is for all", he said.

"The word yoga means to unite. Instead of increasing suffering, yoga heals", he said.

However in its present-day use, yoga is often no more than a form of exercise, Michael says. Don't people from RJD and JDU practice Yoga? She said: "I started yoga when I experienced some asthma".

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, who is also on a tour to Europe, will lead the IYD celebrations at the European Parliament in Brussels.

Down south, on board the INS Jyothi in the Bay of Bengal off Visakhapatnam, the Eastern Naval Command Staff and Eastern Naval Command's submarine staff participated in the International Yoga Day celebrations.

Other gatherings took place across New Delhi with 10,000 enthusiasts registered as well as more than 5,000 events across from the country including in Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Patna. The event that saw the participation of 200 people including Acting Nepali Prime Minister Ishwar Pokhrel and Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri, was co-organized by the Patanjali Yog Peeth and the Indian Mission to Nepal. "So now the world knows the power of yoga", participant Sidharth Singh, 23, told AFP.

Prior to the celebrations marking International Yoga Day, the Muktinath temple in Nepal took Yoga to a higher level when monks, spiritual teachers and locals practiced Yoga Asansas at an elevation of 12500ft above sea level on June 17, 2018.

Here, the Prime Minister said that yoga has become one of the biggest mass movements in the quest for good health and well-being. The Bharathidasan University observed the day with training sessions on yoga and meditation. Reacting on this development, Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha assured that next year, he will convince Modi to come to Mysuru for the Yoga Day.
