Iran to allow private sector to export oil, beat United States sanctions

After Trump withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), more commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal, in May, Zolnour responded by burning a USA flag in front of the parliament.

Instead, Trump is likely referring to a Fox News article, based on another article, based on another interview with a hardline Iranian politician, who first mentioned the unconfirmed figure.

Rouhani, who's facing intense pressure from hardline conservatives at home who accuse him of being naïve for ever trusting the USA, would be left with little incentive to remain in the deal and in compliance with its terms and conditions.

A senior cleric and member of parliament made the claim to a news agency in the country that was then picked up by Fox News.

The U.S. State Department declined to comment.

Jason Rezaian, a Washington Post reporter who previously served as the newspaper's Tehran bureau chief and was imprisoned during the Iran nuclear negotiations, expressed disbelief that Trump would "quote propaganda".

"In 2015, 13,114 people born in Iran were issued green cards, while 13,298 were issued one in 2016, according to figures from the Department for Homeland Security", Irvine recounted.

He is an outspoken critic of President Hassan Rouhani and the nuclear agreement, by which Iran curbed its nuclear programme in return for sanctions relief.

According to statistics published by the Department of Homeland Security, there doesn't seem to be a significant rise in new US citizens or lawful permanent residents from Iran over the last decade.

The top diplomats of Britain, China, France, Germany and Russian Federation will join Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in the Austrian capital, Iran's official IRNA news agency reported, for their first talks together on the deal since Washington pulled out earlier this year.

"Iranians don't understand why the US government allows the offspring of the regime officials to live in the USA, while the USA has introduced a travel ban for ordinary Iranian citizens, and many Americans are imprisoned in Iran", Ghasseminejad added.

"The country has been beset by a series of economic protests in recent days, as the country's currency, the rial, crashes", Irvine noted. "The protests have hit Iranian commercial areas, including the historic Grand Bazaar in Tehran, the home of conservative merchants who backed the 1979 Islamic Revolution and overthrow of the Shah".

The Iranian president is in Europe to gather support ahead of a meeting later this week between Iran and the five global powers that are still party to the 2015 nuclear deal.

"Rouhani has warned the country that it faces an "economic war" with the USA, but analysts have warned that hard-liners are likely behind the protests seeking to challenge the more moderate president", Irvine explained.

Despite calls for unity by Khamenei, divisions have emerged among Iran's ruling elite, with some hardliners calling for a snap presidential election, and criticising Mr Rouhani for economic mismanagement.

Rouhani on Monday blasted the re-implementation of USA sanctions on Iran, saying that the penalties had the greatest impact on Iranian citizens.

"Iranians have never surrendered to foreign pressure and will never do so". The Iran deal negotiations started in 2013, and the pact was signed in 2015.
